Theory U: Leading from the future as it emerges

Today, it's not enough to create change at the level of symptoms and structures. We need to work even deeper, to change the underlying paradigms of thought, and to connect with our deeper sources of creativity and self. Theory U is a framework and method for how to do that, developed by the Presencing Insitute and MIT.

Most learning methodologies focus on learning from the past. Theory U proposes a framework and methodology for learning from the future as it emerges.

Our roadmap

What we've done so far and where we're heading

Please note that this timeline is a simplification of reality as our journey is not a linear process. So, while we currently focus on co-creating, we also explore co-initiating, co-sensing, co-strategizing and co-evolving practices.

1. Co-Initiating: Build common intent ❀️

Co-Initiating starts with listening to others and what life calls you to do.

2. Co-Sensing: Observe and listen πŸ‘‚

With Co-Sensing we begin gathering data by suspending our habitual ways of seeing, going to the edges of the system we’re interested in learning about and changing, and listening with our minds and hearts wide open.

3. Co-Strategize: Reflect and plan πŸ€”

Co-Strategizing means to connect with the source of our highest future possibility – individually, and also as teams, organizations, and larger social systems – and to bring it into reality now. This requires us to let go of the old and open ourselves completely to something that we can sense but that we cannot fully know before we see it emerging.
